The region also makes a focused effort to pro-actively attract skilled workers and investors by participating in overseas trade shows and fairs. The Economic Immigration Branch of Alberta Employment and Immigration (AEI) works with Alberta business and industry to match foreign skilled workers with specific job opportunities in Alberta as well. Employment Services

  • Alberta Employment and Immigration (AEI) provides services and information to enable individuals to succeed in the changing workforce, fosters safe and healthy workplaces and assists people in need.
  • Canada Alberta Job Order Bank Service lists positions available nationwide. Job seekers can search for work by occupational titles, geographical area, student jobs and new jobs posted in the last 48 hours.
  • Alberta Employment and Immigration Alberta Job Corps is a hands-on employment program designed to provide Alberta Works Income Support clients with the opportunity to work and earn a wage while learning reliable employment skills.
  • Medicine Hat College Employment and Resource Centre provides employers with the opportunity to speak directly with potential employees through career and job fairs and recruitment meetings, post openings through the College, and identify potential candidates for job openings. The Centre provides assistance to current students and graduates in developing job search and acquisition skills.
  • Community Futures Entre-Corp Business Development, Community Futures Wild Rose, and Community Futures Meridian provide programs and services to both aspiring and established entrepreneurs.
  • Community Employment Services provides a wide range of free career and employment workshops and services to assist individuals who are either unemployed or underemployed.
  • Brooks Employment Services is a one-stop shop for career and employment needs including career counselling, job search skills, labour market information, employer/employee services, and information services.
  • Career & Employment Assistance Services (CEAS) helps Albertans prepare for the workforce and find and maintain work, make informed career decisions, understand the labour market, develop realistic employment plans, and learn effective job search skills. Local funded CEAS services include Big Country Community Adult Learning Association (Oyen), Brooks Employment Services, Community Employment Services, and Saamis Employment and Training Association.
  • Hire-a-student (Medicine Hat 403-529-4733) provides an employment service that helps students obtain employment and related job skills while assisting employers and the public with their business, employee and casual labour needs.
  • Labour Market Information Centre (LMIC) Alberta Works located in Medicine Hat (403-528-5299) and Brooks (403-362-1278) provides Alberta with information to assist with making career, learning and work decisions
  • The Self-Employment Program, available in Medicine Hat and Brooks through Community Futures Entre-Corp Business Development, is designed for Albertans who are unemployed and in need of self-employment training to participate in the labour market.
  • Volunteer and Community Information Centre offers services and support to volunteers, not-for-profit agencies, individuals and the community.
  • Military Family Career Centre (CFB Suffield) promotes health, well-being, and enhanced quality of life for military families by offering employment services, volunteer development and involvement, child care services, outreach, crisis intervention and education and craft courses/workshops including second language training.
  • HR Solutions assists in planning recruitment strategies and managing the hiring process to ensure a successful hire.
  • Summer Temporary Employment Program (STEP) was developed to help Albertans who would benefit from temporary employment during the spring and summer (late April to early September), typically post-secondary and high school students.

Palliser Region has a diverse research base consisting of:

  • Defence Research and Development Canada - Suffield
(DRDC Suffield)
    Defence R & D Canada provides leading-edge science and technology to the Canadian Forces. Research and development areas include: casualty management, novel energetic materials, countermine technology, physical protection against chemical and biological agents, detection and identification of chemical and biological hazards, robotics, threat assessment and explosive effect, and medical countermeasures against chemical biological agents.
  • Chinook Applied Research Association
    Located in Oyen, the Chinook Applied Research Association focuses on exploiting agricultural research and demonstration activities in the Special Areas and Municipal District of Acadia and aims to transfer technology between the research institutes and the producers.
  • Crop Diversification Centre South
    The Crop Diversification Centre in Brooks promotes the development and growth of crop diversification in Alberta through applied research and technology transfer. Its staff conducts research into ways of protecting crops from disease, pests and weeds, and also develops crop varieties.

Skills development services

  • Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (Medicine Hat) provides promotion and development for up to 50 recognized trades as well as on-going support and guidance to both employers and individuals interested in pursuing a career in the trades.
  • Connections Career & Safety Services provides training in the area of Oil and Gas Class 1 Transportation, Oilfield Worker, and Safety Training.
  • The Self-Employment Program, available in Medicine Hat and Brooks through Community Futures Entre-Corp Business Development, is designed for Albertans who are unemployed and in need of self-employment training to participate in the labour market.
  • Big Country Community Adult Learning Association (Oyen 403-664-2060) is a resource for career, education and employment information.
    Absolute Safety Management (Brooks 403-362-1700) provides workplace health and safety training and job placement services for those aspiring to become employed in industrial settings such as Oil and Gas and Construction.
  • Academy of Learning (Medicine Hat) offers training in job search and resume writing, job placement assistance to graduates, and training in Thought Patterns for a Successful Career.
  • Brooks Campus Medicine Hat College provides College Preparation, University Transfer, Diploma and Certificate Programs, Adult Basic Education, and LPN courses and English as a Second Language Classes.
  • Alberta Learning Information Services (ALIS) is an on-line source of career, learning and employment information.
  • Canadian Agricultural Skills Service (CASS) provides funding and practical assistance to farm families in order to direct them to a learning path that will lead to more opportunities.

Immigration services

Services for people with disabilities

  • Newell Community Action Group (Brooks 403-362-6661) provides vocational training and community living skills training for adults with disabilities.
  • REDI Enterprises assists adults with disabilities who desire to work or volunteer.
  • CORE Association is a non-profit organization that provides services such as career counselling, job development, first aid/CPR training, local labour market information, work experience, volunteer work programs, and placement through on-the-job training to people with developmental disabilities.
  • Disability Related Employment Supports (DRES) provides workplace, job search, educational technology assistance to Albertans in overcoming the barriers to employment created by their disability.
  • The Entrepreneurs with Disabilities Program, offered through Community Futures Entre-Corp Business Development, Community Futures Wild Rose and Community Futures Meridian, offers business training, support and loans to individuals with a disability wishing to start or expand their own business.

Aboriginal services

  • Saamis Employment and Training Association (SETA) (Medicine Hat 403-504-4056) provides employment programs to the Aboriginal Community of Medicine Hat and area.
  • Miywasin Society is a partnership that targets the needs of the Aboriginal Community in the Medicine Hat area and strives to develop and maintain services to meet those needs.

Youth services

  • Youthworks! Employment Centre is a year-round program designed to help young Albertans between the ages of 14 and 24 explore work and training options, build productive careers and achieve meaningful employment.
  • Southeastern Alberta Partners for Youth Career Development (Dunmore 403-504-4942) is a regional partnership of five school divisions, Medicine Hat College, CAREERS: The Next Generation, business and industry associations, government agencies and business reps that work together to build career awareness, employability skills and school-to-work opportunities to further develop the future talent pool.
  • Forty Mile Youth Connections (Foremost 403-867-3077 and Bow Island 403-545-6222) provides a full range of resources to assist youth in making informed career decisions as well as providing job search assistance.
  • Brooks Youth Connections provides free employment and career related services to youth ages 15-24.
  • Summer Temporary Employment Program (STEP) was developed to help Albertans who would benefit from temporary employment during the spring and summer (late April to early September), typically post-secondary and high school students.
  • Youth Connections provides Alberta youth with career planning and counselling services, assistance connecting with learning and work opportunities, labour market information and access to workplace programs, and Skills Canada Competition. Local AEI Youth Connections Service providers include Brooks Youth Connection, County of Forty Mile Youth Connections (located in Foremost and Bow Island), Entre-Corp Business Development Centre Youth Connections, and YouthWorks! Employment Centre.
