During the 2009 Growing in Rural Alberta conference, participants explored a range of overarching trends likely to impact the region’s future. These included global population growth, energy consumption, climate change, migration patterns, education, and income levels, to name a few.

Participants then discussed and identified the 20 trends most likely to impact how the region’s future plays out, ranked them in terms of importance and uncertainty, and used this ranking to identify (or scenarios) in which the future could unfold.
