ENGINEERING AND CONSTRUCTION
The Engineering and Construction Industry includes
Construction accounts for 8.7% of the region's employment (2005), equaling the provincial average. About 6,700 people (2005) are employed in construction in about 565 establishments, a field that has been increasing employment in the region. About 546 of these establishments are small businesses with less than 50 employees. Newly registered apprentices in trades have also been steadily increasing, with the region's annualized growth percentage between 2001 and 2005 in new registrations being 7.2%.
