The Palliser Region has plenty of recreational
opportunities year round. From skiing, curling, hockey and skating in the winter, to camping, boating, hiking and golfing in
the summer, these are just a few of the possibilities for active families and individuals
Hidden Valley Ski Area offers downhill or cross-country
skiing at Cypress Hills Inter-Provincial Park , including many kilometres of trails and uncharted wilderness for cross-country
skiing and winter hiking enthusiasts in and around the Elkwater townsite. P 403-893-3961

Hunters enjoy the varied landscape when hunting birds (pheasant, sharp-tailed grouse, waterfowl) and big game such as elk
and white-tail and mule deer.

Acadia Valley Recreational Dam has rainbow trout, a fishing tournament
and boating.

Bassano Dam is located 8 km southwest of Bassano, the historic site has picnic areas and good fishing.

Blood Indian Park, 30 km South of Youngstown on Highway 884; camping, trout fishing, swimming.

Canoeing on the Red Deer and South Saskatchewan rivers.

Echo Dale Regional Park outside Medicine Hat has picnic areas, swimming and some canoeing.

Fox Lake provides water sports, a sandy beach, picnic and playgrounds, and fully serviced camping.
Located one mile west of Fox Lake Trail near Hanna.

Golden Sheaf Park has camping, boating and fishing.

Lake Newell located 16 km south of Brooks provides fishing, water sports and a swimming beach.

Leisure Centres in the Palliser Region

Leisure Centres and Water Parks in the region include Lakeside Leisure Centre in Brooks,
and Riverside Waterslide Amusement Park . In addition, the Medicine Hat Family Leisure Centre has a multipurpose pool, wave
and leisure pool, lazy river, Rip-n-Rattler Waterslide, parent and tot bubble pool, swirl pool, whirlpool, and steam room.
The arena at the Centre consists of an ice surface and a multi-usage field. Fifty-seven acres of developed land surrounding
the centre include a BMX track, four ball diamonds, three soccer fields, and a premier football,
rugby and soccer playing field. |
Opportunities to participate in bowling, skating, hockey, curling, skateboarding, swimming and tennis are plenty throughout
the region.
