The total number of establishments with employees in the Palliser Region is increasing both in the goods-producing and the service-producing sectors. In 2005, the three sectors that experienced the greatest percentage increase from 2000 were Mining and Oil and Gas Extraction (55.4%), Processional, Scientific and Technical Services (41.0%) and Finance, Insurance, Real Estate and Leasing (22.9%).

The Palliser Region accounted for 3.4% of all small business establishments with less than 50 employees in Alberta . Over 32% of the region's small businesses are in the goods-producing sector, while the remaining 68% are in the services-producing sector.

Opportunities for employment are great in the region and there is diversity both in terms of the industries and sectors as well as among locally owned and internationally owned companies.
