EMPLOYER/WORKFORCE LABOUR OVERVIEW

 

The Palliser Region has

  • A youthful, educated population, with nearly 43 percent of the population between the ages of 25 and 54 and nearly 40 percent of the population with a post-secondary education degree or diploma.

  • A highly skilled labour force in the areas of agriculture, mining, manufacturing construction, transportation, utilities, retail/wholesale, finance, business/community services, and public administration.

  • Above average employment in the forestry, fishing, mining, oil and gas sector, representing 13.9 percent of total employment in the region versus 7.1 percent for Alberta .

  • A higher labour force participation and employment rate and a lower unemployment rate compared to the Province as a whole.

  • A higher annualized percentage rate of growth of newly registered apprentices than the Province as a whole.
