The source of water is the Eastern Irrigation District. The untreated water reservoir capacity is 135,000,000 gallons, while the treated water reservoir capacity is 750,000 gallons.
Alberta’s commitment to water resources is three-fold: a safe, secure drinking water supply, healthy aquatic ecosystems, and reliable, quality water supplies for a sustainable economy.

Alberta Environment has developed water programs that include studying, monitoring and testing of water sources. They have established guidelines to ensure quality standards for the many uses of water, and programs to protect ecosystems and enforce regulations.

Alberta has the most stringent drinking water program in the country and was one of the first provinces to fully adopt the Canadian Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality as a minimum standard. Alberta Environment strives for continuous improvement in its program and works closely with Alberta Health and Wellness to ensure Albertans continue to enjoy high-quality drinking water.

Sewage treatment is provided by 4 anaerobic cells and 1 long lagoon.

The Newell Regional Solid Waste Management Authority Ltd. is responisble for the safe amd environmentally responsible collection of wastes for the recycling or disposal at the regional landfill.

BARRA, a non-profit volunteer organization, has been active for approximately 15 years. THe BARRA Board meets bi monthly on the 3rd Wednesday and currently has 2 part-time employees.

Access is available on a 24 hour basis. We accept and actively recycle: White paper, colored paper, newsprint, glossy magazines,cardboard , tin cans- washed,labels removed and pressed, plastic - washed, and caps removed and some electronic waste - TVs and computers only.

Operating Hours: Tuesday, Friday and Saturday 8:00am to 5:00pm

Town of Bassano Public Works
Bassano Public Works Department are responsible for roads maintenance, snow removal, maintenance and operations of the water and sewer treatment & distribution, storm drainage systems, bi weekly garbage pickup, airport maintenance, swimming pool equipment maintenance, operations, repair and maintenance of Town vehicles and equipment.
